Titus 3

1Remind the people to obey the rulers and authorities, to listen to them, and to be ready to do good.

2Tell them not to say evil things about anyone, and not to argue or fight. Instead, they must be gentle and kind to everyone.

3At one time we too were foolish and disobedient. We were fooled, and we were slaves to all kinds of wrong desires and pleasures. We were full of hate and jealousy. People hated us, and we hated each other.

4But then the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared.

5God saved us — not because of the good things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us by washing us clean and giving us new life through the Holy Spirit.

6God poured out the Holy Spirit on us freely through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

7By His grace God made us right with Himself, so that we could receive what He promised: the hope of eternal life.

8This is a true saying. I want you to keep teaching these things, so that those who trust in God will be careful to do good. These things are good and helpful for everyone.

9But stay away from foolish arguments, from family-tree lists, and from fights and quarrels about the law. They are useless and a waste of time.

10If someone causes division, warn that person once, and then a second time. After that, have nothing to do with that person.

11You know that such a person has turned away from the truth and is sinning. That person has judged themselves.

12As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to spend the winter there.

13Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way, so that they have everything they need.

14Our people must learn to spend their time doing good and meeting the real needs of others, so that their lives are not wasted.
