Old Testament

Psalms 17

Hear my righteous plea, LORD; listen to my cry; pay attention to my prayer, which does not come from deceitful lips.

Let my vindication come from your presence; let your eyes see what is right.

You have tested my heart; you have visited me at night; you have examined me and found nothing wrong; I have decided that my mouth will not sin.

As for the deeds of others, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the paths of the violent.

My steps have held firmly to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

I have called on you, because you will answer me, God. Turn your ear to me and hear my words.

Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save with your right hand those who take refuge in you from their enemies.

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,

From the wicked who attack me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.

They close up their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak with pride.

They have tracked me down; now they surround me, watching for a chance to throw me to the ground.

They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a young lion lurking in ambush.

Rise up, LORD! Confront them and bring them down. Rescue me from the wicked with your sword.

By your hand, LORD, save me from such people, from people of this world whose reward is only in this life. You fill their bellies with your treasure; their children have plenty, and they leave the rest of their wealth to their little ones.

As for me, I will see your face in righteousness; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing you.
