1 Thessalonians 5

1Now, brothers and sisters, you do not need anyone to write to you about times and dates.

2You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

3While people are saying: All is peaceful and safe, then sudden destruction will come on them, like the pains that come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, so that day should not surprise you like a thief.

5You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the dark.

6So then, let us not sleep like other people. Let us stay awake and keep clear minds.

7People who sleep, sleep at night, and people who get drunk, get drunk at night.

8But since we belong to the day, let us keep clear minds. Let us wear faith and love as our chest-armor, and the hope of salvation as our helmet.

9For God did not choose us to suffer His anger, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

10Jesus died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.

11So encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

12Now, brothers and sisters, we ask you to honor those who work hard among you, who lead you in the Lord and correct you.

13Hold them in the highest respect and love, because of the work they do. And live in peace with one another.

14And we urge you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who are lazy, encourage those who are afraid, help those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.

15Make sure that no one pays back wrong for wrong. Instead, always try to do good to one another and to everyone.

16Always be joyful.

17Never stop praying.

18Give thanks in every situation, because this is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.

19Do not put out the Spirit's fire.

20Do not treat prophecies as worthless.

21Test everything; keep what is good.

22Stay away from every kind of evil.

23May God Himself, the God of peace, make you completely holy. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept safe and blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes.

24The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.

25Brothers and sisters, pray for us.

26Greet all the believers with a holy greeting.

27Before the Lord, I tell you to have this letter read to all the believers.

28May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
