New Testament
John 5
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father also loves the Father's children.
This is how we know that we love God's children: when we love God and obey his commands.
Loving God means obeying his commands. And his commands are not too hard,
Because everyone who is a child of God wins against the world. The victory that wins against the world is our faith.
Who is it that wins against the world? Only the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is the one who tells us this is true, because the Spirit is the truth.
For there are three that tell us the truth in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
And there are three that tell us the truth on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree.
We accept what people tell us, but what God tells us is greater. And this is what God has told us about his Son.
Whoever believes in the Son of God has this truth in their own heart. Whoever does not believe has called God a liar, because that person has not believed what God said about God's Son.
And this is what God said: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Whoever has the Son has life. Whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
This is the confidence we have when we come to God: if we ask for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us.
And if we know that he hears us whenever we ask, then we know that we already have what we asked from him.
If you see a brother or sister sinning, but it is not a sin that leads to death, then pray, and God will give that person life. I mean those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I am not saying you should pray about that.
Every wrong thing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
We know that no one who is a child of God keeps on sinning. The Son of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot touch them.
We know that we belong to God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know the true God. And we are in the true God, because we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and he is eternal life.
Dear children, keep yourselves away from idols. Amen.
