1 Chronicles 6

1Levi's sons were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.

2Kohath's sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

3Amram's children were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. Aaron's sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

4Eleazar was the father of Phinehas, and Phinehas was the father of Abishua,

5Abishua was the father of Bukki, and Bukki was the father of Uzzi,

6Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah, and Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth,

7Meraioth was the father of Amariah, and Amariah was the father of Ahitub,

8Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz,

9Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, and Azariah was the father of Johanan,

10Johanan was the father of Azariah. This Azariah served as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.

11Azariah was the father of Amariah, and Amariah was the father of Ahitub,

12Ahitub was the father of Zadok, and Zadok was the father of Shallum,

13Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, and Hilkiah was the father of Azariah,

14Azariah was the father of Seraiah, and Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak,

15Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile through Nebuchadnezzar.

16Levi's sons were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.

17Gershom's sons were named Libni and Shimei.

18Kohath's sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

19Merari's sons were Mahli and Mushi. These were the Levite families, listed by their fathers.

20Gershom's line: Gershom was the father of Libni. Libni was the father of Jahath. Jahath was the father of Zimmah.

21Zimmah was the father of Joah. Joah was the father of Iddo. Iddo was the father of Zerah. Zerah was the father of Jeaterai.

22Kohath's line: Kohath was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Korah. Korah was the father of Assir.

23Assir was the father of Elkanah. Elkanah was the father of Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph was the father of Assir.

24That Assir was the father of Tahath. Tahath was the father of Uriel. Uriel was the father of Uzziah. Uzziah was the father of Shaul.

25Elkanah's sons were Amasai and Ahimoth.

26As for the family of Elkanah: Elkanah was the father of Zophai, and Zophai was the father of Nahath,

27Nahath was the father of Eliab. Eliab was the father of Jeroham. Jeroham was the father of Elkanah.

28Samuel's sons were Joel the firstborn and Abijah the second son.

29Merari's line: Merari's son was Mahli. Mahli's son was Libni. Libni's son was Shimei. Shimei's son was Uzza.

30Uzza's son was Shimea. Shimea's son was Haggiah. Haggiah's son was Asaiah.

31These were the men David appointed to lead the music in the house of the LORD, after the ark of the covenant came to rest there.

32They served with singing in front of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. Then they carried out their duties in the order assigned to them.

33These were the men who served, along with their sons. From the family of Kohath: Heman the singer, son of Joel, son of Shemuel,

34son of Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Eliel, son of Toah,

35son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Mahath, son of Amasai,

36son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah,

37son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah,

38son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel.

39Heman's relative Asaph stood at Heman's right hand. Asaph was the son of Berachiah, son of Shimea,

40son of Michael, son of Baaseiah, son of Malchiah,

41son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah,

42son of Ethan, son of Zimmah, son of Shimei,

43son of Jahath, son of Gershom, son of Levi.

44Their relatives of the family of Merari stood at the left hand: Ethan son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluch,

45son of Hashabiah, son of Amaziah, son of Hilkiah,

46son of Amzi, son of Bani, son of Shamer,

47son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.

48The rest of their fellow Levites were appointed to all the other work of the tabernacle, the house of God.

49But Aaron and Aaron's sons offered sacrifices on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense. They were appointed to do all the work of the most holy place and to make atonement for Israel, exactly as Moses, the servant of God, had commanded.

50Now here again is the line of Aaron: Aaron's son was Eleazar. Eleazar's son was Phinehas. Phinehas's son was Abishua.

51Abishua's son was Bukki. Bukki's son was Uzzi. Uzzi's son was Zerahiah.

52Zerahiah's son was Meraioth. Meraioth's son was Amariah. Amariah's son was Ahitub.

53Ahitub's son was Zadok. Zadok's son was Ahimaaz.

54Now these were the places where Aaron's descendants lived, within their territories and settlements — the Kohathite families, since the first lot fell to them.

55The people of Israel gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it.

56But the open fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

57To the descendants of Aaron they gave these cities of Judah: Hebron, a city of refuge, and Libnah with its pasturelands, and Jattir and Eshtemoa with their pasturelands,

58and Hilen with its pasturelands, and Debir with its pasturelands,

59and Ashan with its pasturelands, and Bethshemesh with its pasturelands.

60From the tribe of Benjamin they were given Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. In all, the families of Aaron's descendants received thirteen cities.

61The rest of Kohath's descendants, from the remaining Kohathite families, were given ten cities by lot from the half-tribe of Manasseh.

62Gershom's descendants, by their families, received thirteen cities from the tribe of Issachar, the tribe of Asher, the tribe of Naphtali, and the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

63Merari's descendants, by their families, were given twelve cities by lot from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun.

64So the people of Israel gave the Levites these cities, along with their pasturelands.

65They gave by lot, from the tribe of Judah, the tribe of Simeon, and the tribe of Benjamin, the cities already named above.

66The rest of the Kohathite families received cities from the territory of the tribe of Ephraim.

67They gave them Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, a city of refuge, with its pasturelands, and also Gezer with its pasturelands,

68and Jokmeam with its pasturelands, and Bethhoron with its pasturelands,

69and Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gathrimmon with its pasturelands.

70From the half-tribe of Manasseh, the rest of the Kohathite family received Aner with its pasturelands and Bileam with its pasturelands.

71Gershom's descendants were given, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth with its pasturelands.

72From the tribe of Issachar they received Kedesh with its pasturelands, and Daberath with its pasturelands,

73and Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands.

74From the tribe of Asher they received Mashal with its pasturelands, and Abdon with its pasturelands,

75and Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands.

76From the tribe of Naphtali they received Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, Hammon with its pasturelands, and Kirjathaim with its pasturelands.

77The rest of Merari's descendants were given, from the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with its pasturelands and Tabor with its pasturelands.

78On the other side of the Jordan from Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, they were given, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands, and Jahzah with its pasturelands,

79and Kedemoth with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands.

80From the tribe of Gad they received Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, and Mahanaim with its pasturelands,

81and Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
