Romans 5

1So, since we have been made right with God by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Through Jesus we have been brought, by faith, into this grace in which we now stand. And we are glad because of our hope of sharing in God's glory.

3Not only that, but we are also glad in our troubles, because we know that trouble produces patience;

4patience produces strong character; and strong character produces hope.

5And this hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit He has given us.

6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

7It is rare for anyone to die even for a good person, though for a truly good person someone might dare to die.

8But God shows His love for us in this way: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9So now that we have been made right with God by Christ's blood, how much more will we be saved from God's anger through Him!

10For if, while we were God's enemies, we were brought back to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, now that we are His friends, will we be saved through His life!

11Not only that, but we are also glad in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now been brought back to God.

12So then, sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin. And so death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned.

13Sin was in the world before the law was given. But sin is not counted against anyone when there is no law.

14Yet death ruled from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin in the same way Adam did, when he broke God's command. Adam was a picture of the One who was coming.

15But God's free gift is not like Adam's sin. Many died because of the sin of one man. But God's grace, and the gift that came by the grace of one man, Jesus Christ, overflowed to many even more.

16And the gift is not like the result of one man's sin. The judgment after one sin brought condemnation, but the free gift brought a right standing, even after many sins.

17For if death ruled because of one man's sin, how much more will those who receive God's overflowing grace and gift of right standing rule in life through one man, Jesus Christ!

18So then, just as one sin brought condemnation for everyone, one act of right brought a right standing and life for everyone.

19For just as many were made sinners through the disobedience of one man, so many will be made right with God through the obedience of one man.

20The law was brought in so that sin would increase. But where sin increased, grace increased even more,

21so that, just as sin ruled and brought death, grace might rule by making people right with God, bringing eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
