Old Testament
Psalms 137
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and cried when we remembered Zion.
We hung our harps nearby, there on the willow trees. Psalms 137: There in Babylon, those who captured us told us to sing. Our enemies told us to entertain them. They said, Sing us one of your songs about Zion.
But we could not sing the song of the Lord in a strange land.
Jerusalem, if I forget you, then my right hand must forget how to play the harp.
If I don’t think about Jerusalen, then my tongue must stick to the top of my mouth. Jerusalem must always be the city that I love the most.
Lord, remember what the Edomite people did when they destroyed Jerusalem. The Edomite people said: Break down the walls. Destroy them down to the foundations.
Babylon, you will be destroyed! Bless the one who pays you back for what you did to us.
Your enemies will kill your babies against the rocks.
