New Testament

Luke 24

Very early Sunday morning, the women came to the tomb where Jesus’ body was laid. They brought the sweet-smelling spices they had prepared.

When the women came to the tomb, the women saw that someone had rolled away the stone that was in front of the tomb.

The women went into the tomb but they did not see the body of the Lord Jesus there.

The women did not understand what had happen. While they were thinking about this, two men in shining clothes stood beside them.

The women were afraid and they bowed down with their faces to the ground. The men said to them: Why do you look for the One who lives, here in a tomb for dead people?

Jesus is not here. God has raised Him up and made Him live again. Remember what Jesus told you when you were in Galilee.

Jesus said God would give Him to bad people and they would kill Him, the Son of man. They would nail Jesus to the cross but on the 3rd day Jesus would rise and live again.

The women then remembered what Jesus had said.

The women went back home and told everything to the 11 apostles and the other believers.

The women who saw what happened at the tomb were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James and some other women with them. When they told these things to the apostles,

The apostles did not believe them. They said it could not be true.

Then Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Peter bowed down and looked into the tomb and he saw only the cloth that they had put around the body of Jesus. Peter went back and was very surprised about what had happened.

That same Sunday 2 of the men who followed Jesus walked to the town of Emmaus. It is about seven miles from Jerusalem.

The 2 men talked to each other about everything that had happened to Jesus.

While the 2 men were talking and thinking about the events that had happen, Jesus came and walked with them.

But the 2 men did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus did not want them to know at that time who He was.

Jesus asked the 2 men: Why are you so sad what are you talking about as you walk down this road?

Cleopas, one of the men, asked Jesus: You must be the only person in Jerusalem who doesn’t know what has just happened there.

Jesus asked them: What things?’ They said: All the things that happened to Jesus, the Man from Nazareth. Jesus was a prophet who did wonderful miracles. Jesus was a Teacher from God. God was with Him and all the people listened to Jesus.

But the chief leading priests and our leaders handed him over to be judged and killed. They nailed him to a cross.

We were hoping that Jesus would be the one to free Israel. But then all this happened. And It has been three days since Jesus was killed.

Also Today some of our women told us an amazing thing. Early this morning they went to the tomb where the body of Jesus was laid.

But the women did not find Jesus body there. They came and told us they had seen some angels in a vision. The angels told them Jesus was alive!

So some of our group went to the tomb too. It was just as the women said. They saw the tomb, but they did not see Jesus.

Jesus said to the 2 men: You are foolish and slow to realize what is true. You should believe everything the prophets said.

The prophets said the Messiah must suffer these things before he begins his time of glory.

Then Jesus started to explain to the 2 men what the books of Moses and the prophets and the other books of the Old Testament said about Jesus.

When the 2 men got near the town of Emmaus, Jesus said He wanted to go to the next town.

But the 2 men wanted Jesus to stay. The 2 men begged Jesus, Stay with us. It’s almost night. There’s hardly any daylight left. So Jesus went in to stay with the 1 men.

When they started to eat, Jesus took the bread and thanked God for it. Jesus broke the bread and gave it to the 2 men.

Immediately God opened their eyes and the 2 men saw that it was Jesus. But then Jesus disappeared. The 2 men could not see Jesus anymore.

The 2 men said to each other: Now we know why we were so happy when Jesus talked to us on the road. When Jesus explained the Bible to us.

The 2 men immediately got up and went back to Jerusalem. The 2 men found the 11 apostles and other believers with them.

The 2 men said: The Lord really has risen from death! Jesus did appear to Simon.

Then the 2 men told the apostles and other people everything that had happened when they walked to Emmaus, and when they saw that it was Jesus when He broke the bread.

While the two men were saying these things to the other followers, Jesus stood there with them and Jesus said to them: Peace be with you.

The followers of Jesus were afraid. They thought they had seen a ghost.

But Jesus said to them: Why are you afraid? Why don’t you believe what you see?

Look at my hands and my feet. It’s really me. Touch me. You can see that I have a living body; ghost does not have a body with flesh and bones.

After Jesus said this, Jesus showed the his followers his hands and his feet.

Jesus followers were amazed and very, very happy to see that Jesus was alive. But the Jesus Followers still could not believe what they saw. Jesus said to his followers, Do you have any food here?

Jesus followers gave Jesus a piece of fish and honey.

Jesus took it and his followers watched Jesus eat it.

Then Jesus said to his followers: Do you remember what I said when I was with you before I died? I told you that everything that is written about Me in the books of Moses, and also the things that are written in the books of the prophets and the book of Psalms, must happen.

Then Jesus helped them to understand the Bible.

Jesus told his followers: The Old Testament says that the Christ must suffer and die, but that the Christ will rise and start to live again on the 3rd day.

It is written that the people who believe in God must go and tell everyone that God forgives the sins of everyone who believes in Christ and turns to God and starts living as He wants. You must start telling the people in Jerusalem.

Tell the people what you saw Me do and what I said.

And I will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city of Jerusalem, until the power from above comes down upon you.

Then Jesus told the apostles to go with Him. Jesus took the apostles to a place near the town of Bethany. Then Jesus held up his hands and blessed them.

Jesus blessed the apostles then he was separated from them and carried into heaven.

The apostles worshipped Jesus and then they went back to Jerusalem. They were very happy.

They went to the temple every day and they praised God.
