New Testament
Colossians 3
So then, since you were raised to new life with Christ, set your hearts on the things above, where Christ is sitting at God's right hand.
Think about the things above, not about earthly things.
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Christ is your life. When Christ appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
So put to death whatever belongs to your earthly, sinful self: sexual sin, anything unclean, wrong desire, and greed, which is the same as worshiping idols.
Because of these things, God's anger comes on those who disobey him.
You used to live this way, when your life was full of these things.
But now you must get rid of all of them: anger, bad temper, hate, insults, and dirty talk from your mouth.
Do not lie to one another. You have taken off your old self and the things it used to do,
And you have put on a new self. This new self keeps being made fresh, to know God and to become like the God who made it.
Here it does not matter if you are Greek or Jew, circumcised or not, an outsider, a wild tribesman, a slave or free. Christ is everything, and Christ is in everything.
So then, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a tender heart, kindness, a humble mind, gentleness, and patience.
Put up with one another, and forgive one another if anyone has a complaint against someone. Forgive just as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these things put on love, which holds everything together perfectly.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since you were called to peace as one body. And be thankful.
Let the message of Christ live in you fully. Teach and warn one another with all wisdom, and sing to God with thankful hearts — psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.
And whatever you do, in word or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, follow the lead of your husbands, as is right in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not be so hard on your children that they lose heart.
Servants, obey your earthly masters in everything. Do not work only when they are watching, to win their favor. Instead, work with an honest heart, because you respect the Lord.
Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as if you were working for the Lord and not for people.
Remember that the Lord will reward you with what he has promised his people. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Anyone who does wrong will be paid back for the wrong they did, and God treats everyone the same.
