1 Chronicles 14

1Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, and stonemasons and carpenters to build him a palace.

2David realized that the LORD had confirmed him as king over Israel, because his kingdom had been highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.

3David took more wives in Jerusalem, and he had more sons and daughters.

4These are the names of the children he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

5Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

6Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

7Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. David heard about it and went out to face them.

9The Philistines came and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.

10David asked God: Should I go up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? The LORD said to him: Go up. I will hand them over to you.

11So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. David said: God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood of water. That is why they named that place Baal Perazim.

12The Philistines left their gods behind there, and David gave orders for them to be burned in the fire.

13But the Philistines spread out again in the valley.

14So David asked God again, and God said to him: Do not go straight up after them. Instead, circle around them and attack from in front of the balsam trees.

15As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to fight, because God will have already gone out ahead of you to strike the army of the Philistines.

16David did exactly as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.

17David's fame spread throughout every land, and the LORD made all the nations afraid of him.
